What is Koinonia?

No-one can live in insecurity, without the support that human mutuality provides; without partners who can listen to them and speak to them, and with whom they share their successes and disappointments; partners who have similar standards for judging good and evil, right and wrong, beauty and ugliness.

Christian fellowship or communion is with God or, more commonly, with fellow Christians. Koinonia primarily means “fellowship, sharing in common, communion.” There are several biblical interpretations of the meaning of Koinonia which leads to the same definition of “sharing in common, being devoted to one another, believers devoting themselves to the apostles' teachings, coming together in love, faith, and encouragement; being in agreement with one another, honouring one another, living in harmony with one another, accepting one another, being kind and compassionate to one another, encouraging one another toward love and good deeds working towards strengthening one another towards a common goal.

What is “Koinonia of the Holy Land”

Strengthening: we do not aspire to maintain the Christian presence or preserve the living stones. To maintain could become a “status quo” – keeping the Christians as they are, which is not healthy. Instead, we aspire to strengthen the Christian presence, provide them with the tools of survival, empower them, and spread a new spirit among the community- a spirit of renewed hope that we can have a future here in our homeland, in the Land of Jesus, and that we will achieve a future for us here.

Church of Jerusalem: At first glance, the term “Church of Jerusalem” gives the impression that we are concerned solely with the city of Jerusalem and the church community in that city. However, in the Gospel, and specifically in the Acts of the Apostles, the Church of Jerusalem depicts the group of the Apostles and disciples along with the first Christian community that lives in Jerusalem and all of historic Palestine. This program needed concentrates on Jerusalem and the Christian community in Jerusalem, because of the peculiarity of Jerusalem following the construction of the Separation Wall and its isolation from the various Christian communities in the Palestinian Territories. However, connecting with and serving the Christian communities in other cities and towns remains an objective, as it is vital for the survival and strengthening of the Christian community in the Holy Land to serve the Christians.
